Lilliesleaf
LILLIESLEAF is situated about 7 miles north-east of Hawick, 7 miles south-east of Selkirk, 7 miles north-west of Ancrum, and 7 miles south-west of Melrose!! The village supports a primary school, and two pubs, as well as the church.
The present church building dates from 1771, but it has been significantly altered over the years with the addition of an apse and a bell-tower. Plans are afoot for an extension to provide much-needed meeting space, kitchen facilities and a disability-compliant toilet.
There has been a place of Christian worship in the village for many centuries, and a fascinating link from the distant past to the present day is the stone font, reckoned to be about 800 years old. This was found in the Moss below the churchyard and has been restored to use. There is also a stone child’s coffin in the church!
Lilliesleaf Sunday School
We meet during morning services at Lilliesleaf Church, and children from 3-12 years are welcome. With plans to extend the meeting room at Lilliesleaf, we hope to be able to embrace a wider range of activities in the near future – watch this space!
