With the present reorganisation of Presbyteries, churches and ministers across Scotland, the Presbytery of Jedburgh has had to make changes to the Churches in the Jedburgh area. This is because there will be only one minister for the five churches in the area. The plan for Ale and Teviot is to close Crailing Kirk, but retain Ancrum and Lilliesleaf church buildings. The Ancrum Manse is no longer required as a manse, but Ale and Teviot can retain it as an asset, and benefit from rental income.
There are question marks about the closure decisions for Crailing and Oxnam Kirks. As this will take some time to be settled, Ale and Teviot will continue to have Revd Stewart McPherson as the Interim Moderator and Revd Una Stewart as the Locum taking most of the services. As time goes on, there will be the need for churches to have worship teams to lead services on a regular basis. At Ale and Teviot, we are determined to maintain the continuity of the Lord’s work and the preaching of His Word in our extended parish.
